The project was hatched from a collection of field recordings and conversations with family and friends gathered on a trip to his native Colombia. The name Campos de Luz, or Fields of Light in Spanish, references the Artist’s family name and calls up fecund landscapes where earth meets the sky—such as artist Walter de Maria’s Lightning Field.
Decidedly idiosyncratic, experimental and beat heavy, Campos de Luz’s self titled debut is a heady mix of rhythm, and textures–narrated in Spanish– about liminal spaces, desire, migration and escape.
Cinematic and deeply moving, the album is an invitation to journey and a meditation on duality and contradiction.
“Campos de Luz furthers my lifelong quest to combine all the pieces of my creative life with language. Along the way I discovered beautiful and terrifying things about myself and the people and places I’ve encountered.” -Mario Schambon
